A request for a game ad video can hide several different jobs. The footage may exist and need a sequence. The assets may exist and need movement. Or the essential scene may still need to be created. Naming that gap gives the production conversation a concrete starting point.
Use an illustrative brief: show a player combining two items into a stronger tool. The message stays the same while the available material changes.
When the moment already exists
Suppose usable gameplay footage shows the combination and its result. An edit can select the clearest moment, establish the starting state and give the result enough space to register. The input is footage; the work concerns selection, sequence, pacing and any necessary supporting graphics.
The limit appears when the requested change is inside the recorded action. A different camera view or item interaction may require a new capture or another production step. That should be named in the scope.
When the assets exist but the explanation does not
Now suppose the two items and resulting tool exist as art assets, but there is no useful sequence showing their relationship. Motion and graphics offer another route: design how the items enter, combine and reveal the result.
The brief needs to explain whether this is a diagram of the mechanic or a depiction of actual gameplay. That distinction affects the message. The source material also needs to support the intended revisions, such as replacing an item or changing the order.
When the essential shot is missing
If neither footage nor asset animation provides the necessary moment, shot creation becomes part of the job. Capture, rendering and generation are possible routes, selected according to what must be depicted, what inputs are available and what degree of control the revisions require.
The label of the tool cannot answer those questions by itself. Changing a caption after delivery is different from changing the interaction inside a finished shot. A route that suits one revision may require substantial new work for the other.
A mixed approach can be appropriate: gameplay establishes the mechanic, graphics explain the combination and another shot introduces the setting. The brief should identify those contributions individually.
